Mocha's Debut Stream: Thoughts, Feelings, and Reflections

On Friday, I did my very first stream with my gaming collective, Sundae. We went live around 7 PM and wrapped up around 9:30 PM, two and a half hours of pure chaos and fun. We started with custom Dead by Daylight matches and ended with a few rounds of Skribbl.io. The whole night felt fantastic. Afterward, I checked my stream analytics… and honestly? I was glowing.

Twenty-two people stopped by at some point during the stream, and we peaked at 13 viewers at once. Thirteen people watching me play, laugh, and be silly with my friends? That still doesn’t feel real.

In the days leading up to the stream, my friends and I worked tirelessly to get everything just right, including sound alerts, overlays, donation pages, and layouts, the whole package! We were anxious, excited, and a little overwhelmed, and then suddenly Friday arrived and the cameras went live. People immediately started pouring in to say hello, wish us luck, and chat. One friend talked about her bridal party, another complimented my gameplay, and someone else stayed to enjoy the vibe and ask questions about the game. It was such a heartwarming time to be so supported. 

So, what did I think of streaming overall?

It’s a bit early for a final verdict, but I will say this: it took more out of me than I expected. The anxiety before and during the stream was manageable, and surprisingly, it wasn’t the hardest part. The real challenge was staying aware and “on” the entire time. Streaming isn’t just playing a game. It’s entertaining, chatting, reading messages, responding in real time, and keeping your gameplay sharp enough to hold attention. It’s a lot to juggle.

Still, I enjoyed it, and I plan to keep going. What I’m less certain about is whether I can build an actual audience. I love my friends deeply, but I don’t want my growth to rely solely on the people who already love me. I want to stand on my own and be able to reach new people.

I’m also branching out into other forms of content creation, like this blog. Sure, blogging isn’t exactly mainstream anymore, but someone out there might enjoy reading posts like this. I just have to stay consistent. I also want to make videos for TikTok and YouTube, both solo and with Sundae. The future feels uncertain, but my interest in content creation is very real, and I’m committed to pursuing it.
