Welcome to Mocha Plays Things, a cozy, hobby blog created by me, Mocha, your player and pen behind the posts!
I created this space as a creative outlet, a diary, and a keepsake for my gaming journey. Here, you’ll find me writing, ranting, and gushing about all of my favorite (and occasionally not-so-favorite) games.
I’ve been a gamer for as long as I can remember, from adopting my first Nintendog on the DS Lite, to playing Papa’s Freezeria in the school computer lab, to spending endless hours grinding MySims on the family Wii. Despite my time on various consoles, a large portion of my early gaming history comes from virtual worlds and social MMOs such as Habbo Hotel, WeeWorld, and Meez. Preteen Mocha spent an embarrassing amount of time (and money) there before discovering PC gaming in 2019.
That was the year I found Dead by Daylight through one of my favorite YouTubers, DK1Games (now HalfMoonJoe). 1,500 hours later, it’s still one of my most-played games and the one that pulled me deep into PC gaming. At the time, I didn’t even own a computer; I played on my dad’s iMac, but in 2021, I got my first real gaming laptop: a Razer Blade 14 Quartz.
Since then, I’ve fallen in love with countless worlds, from the eerie beauty of Silent Hill 2 and Alice: Madness Returns to the cozy calm of Animal Crossing: New Leaf. I tend to gravitate toward narrative-driven games, survival horror, dating sims, and anything cozy. I’m less into MOBAs, puzzle games, and platformers, though there are always exceptions.
Over time, I also discovered my favorite niche: class-based games. Overwatch was my gateway into class-based games, and with over 1,500 hours logged, it became one of my all-time favorites. I started out as a support main, mostly playing Moira, but these days, I’d call myself a flex player with a much wider hero pool. I naturally gravitate toward team-oriented roles that let others shine. Whether I’m healing, defending, or providing utility, I love being the quiet backbone of a good match.
At its heart, gaming has been a constant source of joy, expression, and stress relief for me. As someone who struggles with mental health challenges, it’s helped me find calm in the chaos. Through this blog, I hope to use gaming not only as an outlet for myself but also as a gentle reminder for others to find comfort in the small things that make them happy, too.
